چکیده

As a consequence of the poor implantation sanitation systems, more than 80% wastewater from human activity is dumped, which poses threat to public health and generates water stress. In contrast, its depuration reuse for irrigation improves efficiency management cycle reduces use fresh water. context grey purification in rural areas Europe, constructed wetlands are preferred option. Furthermore, developing countries, they particularly attractive as an alternative conventional systems. The design such facilities tends avoid complexity interactions between solids, pollutants, microorganisms, plants. this work, rigorous mathematical model proposed, considers mass balances substrate addition degradation kinetics typical biotechnological processes, life cycles their horizontal vertical transport processes. This was tuned based on responses already installed systems located Zapote (Costa Rica) San Salvador (El Salvador). foresees start-up times close three months, efficiencies reaching above 90%, corresponds with previously reported values. developed simulation tool also employed study response various disturbances, punctual stops or seasonal variations incoming flow.

Recent developments in numerical modelling of subsurface flow constructed wetlands.

Numerical modelling of subsurface flow constructed wetlands (CWs) gained increasing interest during the last years. The main objective of the modelling work is, on the one hand, to increase the insight in dynamics and functioning of the complex CW system by using mechanistic or process based models that describe transformation and degradation processes in detail. As these mechanistic models are...

Numerical Analysis of the Performance of Horizontal and Wavy Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetlands

A three-dimensional numerical model is proposed for modeling the TP transport in the Horizontal Subsurface Flow (HSSF) and Wavy subsurface Flow (WSSF) constructed wetland in this article. Both numerical simulations and physical experiments indicate that the removal efficiency of WSSF is higher than that of HSSF. The difference of performance in removing pollutants, e.g., Total Phosphorus (TP), ...

Design of horizontal and vertical subsurface flow constructed wetlands treating industrial wastewater

Constructed wetlands have become a good alternative to urban and industrial wastewater treatments. Because of the many interactions between the different parts that form the wetland, the design of these systems used to be very complex so a good design tool is required. Hybrid constructed wetlands mix the aerobic and anaerobic properties of vertical and horizontal subsurface flow constructed wet...

Influence of chlorothalonil on the removal of organic matter in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands.

This study investigates the effects of chlorothalonil (CLT) on chemical oxygen demand (COD) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in pilot-scale horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HSSFCW) planted with Phragmites australis. Physicochemical parameters of influent and effluent water samples, microbial population counting methods and statistical analysis were used to evaluate the influen...
